Spiral welded pipes production

General overview

COMTECH CO is producing SAW (Submerged arc welding) spiral pipes with production capacity ≈30.000 tons per year.

Spiral welded steel pipes are made of low carbon steel coils in sizes ranging from 406.4 mm to 1626 mm outside diameter, wall thickness from 5 mm to 12.5 mm and length from 6 m to 18 m.

Plant activity started in 1978 with division for the spiral welded pipes production. From 2011, plant inaugurate a coating line with 3 layers of extruded polyethylene and polypropylene.

Since 2020 the plant has experienced an extensive re-technological process which allow to produce and deliver pipes in accordance with EN, DIN, API and ISO standards or in accordance with agreed terms or standards.

COMTECH CO has two anti-corrosion coating sections, in different locations: Slatina and Zimnicea. The 3LPE/3LPP coating process is done according to the standards DIN 30670, ISO 21809-1, DIN 30678, as well as other standards at the customer’s request.

New equipment has been installed:

  • New inner and outer doubleheader welding machine
  • New automatic ultrasonic inspection of weld seam
  • New edge slitting roller
  • New cut-to-length plasma device
  • New equipment laboratory: Charpy V-Notch, Spectometer, Tensile machine.

Other equipment has been updated:

  • Radiographic machine for x-rays control
  • Hydrostatic pressure machine.

The main sectors supplied include pipes for the transport of gas, oil and water as well as pipes for the construction markets.

The plant is located on the Danube port Zimnicea, Teleorman county. It offers excellent connection by rail trucks and railway wagons and through the port on the Danube, Zimnicea offers the advantage of direct connection with Europe and shipments to other continents being performed through the seaport Constanta.

Surface Protection | Coating and lining

COMTECH CO produce spirally welded pipes coated with 3 layers of extruded polyethylene (3LPE) and polypropylene (3LPP) in accordance with both DIN 30670 and EN ISO 21809-1, for the size range 406.4 ÷ 1219 mm, with wall thickness between 5 and 12.5 mm, production material L245 ÷ L415 or other equivalent steel grades, under various execution norms.

Testing

The pipes are tested with a series of non-destructive and mechanical tests: ultrasonic test, X-ray test, hydrostatic pressure test and visual inspection of surface and welds from outside and from inside the pipe, tensile test, Charpy V-Notch, bend test, yield point and chemical composition. All results are recorded and archived into our system.

Certificates and Quality Control System

The production process is certified according to EN ISO 9001; EN ISO 14001; EN ISO 45001. In addition, the high quality of our pipes has been confirmed by following product certificates:

  • Directive 97/23/EC 2014/68/EU Annex 1, Paragraph 4.3. Conformity Assessment; 305/2011/AB Construction Product Regulation EN 10219 Conformity Assessment;
  • 305/2011/AB Construction Product Regulation EN 10219 Conformity Assessment;
  • EN ISO 3183 Conformity Assessment;
  • EN ISO 21809-1 Conformity Assessment;
  • EN 10217-5 Conformity Assessment;
